Our Learning: A Tailored Journey

At our school, learning is where Reggio-inspired inquiry meets specialised knowledge and skills within the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC). We view every student as a capable, unique individual with “a hundred languages” of expression. By weaving NZC Key Capabilities into our specialised setting, we ensure an intentional learning journey designed to support the strengths and aspirations of each ākonga.

We are all Teachers

We cannot teach a child if we do not know who they are, we understand that everyone in the child’s life is a teacher.

  • Whānau as Partners: Families bring a deep knowledge of their child that informs our shared partnership.
  • The Teaching Collective: Our educators, specialist educators and Learning Assistants work as a team to deliver the curriculum.
  • Specialists in Access: Our Speech, Occupational, and Physio therapists collaborate directly with educators. They contribute their skills to adapt tools and strategies so that students can engage with the curriculum independently.

A Living Curriculum

For us, the curriculum is the foundation that informs our work; it defines the why, what, and how of our delivery. We adapt, adopt, and recreate curriculum content to ensure it is meaningful and accessible. Our focus is on removing barriers so that every ākonga can access learning with ease and independence.

The Environment as a Teacher

Inspired by Reggio principles, we recognise that learning happens everywhere. We intentionally design and use environments to provoke engagement and interaction to lead to meaningful access to the curriculum.

Success Through Agency

Our goal is a successful learning journey where ākonga move from curiosity to capability. We ensure that learning is not something that happens to the student, but with them. We design the world around our students so they can claim their right to navigate it for themselves.
